Joanna Williams Olsen, M.Ed., Registered Psychotherapist,
Clinical Member, OSP
I offer individual counselling and psychotherapy to adults and youths experiencing a wide range of personal problems including depression, anxiety, grief and burnout. Longer-term psychotherapeutic work is my area of special interest helping individuals with emotional difficulties relating to abuse, loss, trauma and self-esteem.
My approach to therapy is compassionate, empathic and psychodynamic. I provide clients with a safe space where they can explore and resolve their feelings, thoughts and behaviours that lead to distress in their lives. I apply psychotherapeutic theories, principles and interventions in my work and guide my clients toward self-discovery and healing. I am interactive and responsive to the needs of my clients and attend to the underlying origins of their concerns. I also assist clients in resolving the patterns in their lives which lead to feelings of helplessness and frustration. By helping clients to shift the ways that they relate to themselves, the world and others, our therapeutic work together promotes long lasting changes and positive personal growth.
I have over fourteen years of clinical experience. My therapy experience includes working in various community social services agencies, post-secondary institutions and private practice. I received my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto in 2000. I am a Clinical Member of the Ontario Society of Psychotherapists. In addition, I have completed a Master of Education in Language, Culture and Teaching from York University.
